This course is intended for History students in their first semester, which corresponds to the beginner level (A1) of English course in general. It aims at improving the students' English proficiency, mainly in reading simple English sources and writing short English texts. For the reading part, students are expected to learn how to read critically. In this course they will work with various texts on Islam, history, Indonesian Islam, ranging from posters (with moderate amount of texts) to encyclopedia entries (with longer, more challenging, academic passages). As for the writing competency, they will learn how to create short, efficient English texts correctly (in terms of grammar, spelling, and word choice simultaneously).
